The Department of Economics
The department of economics provides undergraduate, masters (MA/MS and MSTAT) and doctoral-level training and conducts research in topics ranging from economic growth and stability to health and environmental resource economics, to the history of economies and of economic ideas. It also provides cutting edge training in econometric and quantitative tools that lend themselves to applied analysis of the economy and policy. Several scholars in the department have, as part of their research focus, policy challenges related to environmental sustainability, inequality, and economic globalization.
Undergraduates majoring in economics have the opportunity to participate in original research on these and other pressing economic issues through internships with private and public enterprises and policy research groups. The department’s emphasis track in Statistical Analysis for Economics, incorporates a two-course sequence focused on research projects and presentations carried out in collaboration with government and non-profit groups.
